Kaia Updike is a multi instrumentalist (violin/keys/bass/flute/guitar
As a keyboard player for tributes to Santana, Donna Summer, Fleetwood Mac, Green Day and Pearl Jam, Kaia likes to find “just the right sound patch” for iconic synth, organ, horn and string lines.
Trained classically on the violin, Kaia grew up listening to her father play jazz standards on the piano by ear. “He taught me music theory and introduced me to synthesizers by purchasing the earliest Kurzweil model in the early 1980s!”
Kaia has played violin for swing jazz singer Miss Maybell, for a Dave Matthews tribute and for Lex Grey and the Urban Pioneers, the original roots music band that got her started writing her own music.
As a bass player she performs primarily for Club Med Resorts, for her surf band “Drip 2.0” and for studio projects with her drummer partner John Holland.
After 30 years as an MBA trained risk manager on Wall Street, Kaia became a full time musician in 2012.
